Social Freezing - get pregnant if I want to...
Medicine has made a lot of progress. However, the biology of fertility and the chance of getting pregnant depends on the age of the woman.
Many women refer to this as their "biological clock". But what exactly does this mean from a medical point of view?
In the case of the biological clock, there are two factors in particular that determine a woman's fertility:
Unfortunately, the biological clock can neither be slowed down nor stopped.
However, many women cannot or do not want to get pregnant at the moment due to their personal life planning or do not have a partner. These women are faced with the question of how they can secure their chance of having their own child in the future.
A few years ago, it was possible to develop a new and innovative freezing process (called: vitrification) that makes it possible to successfully freeze unfertilized eggs.
The term "social freezing" has been established for this process. This refers to the freezing of unfertilized egg cells that are intended to help achieve pregnancy in a later phase of life. Ideally, these eggs are never needed.
At an advanced age or when the ovarian reserve remains low, the frozen eggs act like a time machine. The eggs ensure a woman's fertility at the moment when the eggs have been frozen.
The Ceres Fertility Center Berlin has been successfully carrying out "social freezing" for many years.
